High Flying Lifton, Devon In a quiet valley west of Dartmoor, the Arundell Arms is one of Britain’s most prestigious specialist fishing hotels, with its own fishing school and private beats on 20 miles of the Tamar. The hotel also has its own lake, so there’s ample fly-fishing, including wild brown trout, sea trout, salmon, and rainbow trout.
The countryside here is gorgeous and there’s a sense of real dedication to the sport. While you’re there If standing still for so long gets you down, take to your heels on Dartmoor. Yorks Whitby is famous as the setting for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, but the sea-fishing here makes for a better kind of bite. The harbour is cosy with plenty of day-boats. Skipper Paul Sykes was recently voted one of the area’s ‘ friendliest faces’ and he’ll help you catch cod, ling, haddock, herring or mackerel. He also gets so close to whales in late summer you can smell them.
While you’re there Go hunting jet gemstones on the shore. Where to stay Bagdale Hall, near the harbour, has an atmospheric Tudor section with four-posters. Get slippery Cheviot Hills, Northumberland The Tweed, which forms much of the border between Northumberland and Scotland, is one of the world’s finest salmon rivers, but it’s hard to get onto because it’s mostly privately owned. Pick one of the Tweed’s lesser-known tributaries, which are easier to access, but productive.
Some accommodation, such as Turvelaws Cottages include private fishing rights. While you’re there The Northumberland National Park is great for walking.

Next Are there any pegs to hold the tent on the ground? How do you stop it blowing away? There does not seem to be any pegs on the corners holding it down. Chris – Downer 8 months ago G’day Chris, I’ve gone and double checked our display model. It isn’t easy to see through the online images, but the way in which you peg the tent down is through slits that run around the base.
The tent has been designed to peg over the pole that runs around the perimeter of the base. However, I’d love to offer a hot tip to protect the tent poles. I’d recommend tying a small loop of rope around the pole at every opening. The reason for this is to provide an alternative peg point to ensure you avoid damaging the pole when applying pressure through the peg. The rope will still hold but will be separated from the pole ensuring you don’t accidentally damage it when hammering in the peg.

Surviving off hook-up 11b9fe c f c7f-c3d14f d5 One of the great advantages of owning a motorhome is the ability to roam and not be tied down to a campsite every night. It becomes a number-juggling process as you balance the available electric and gas capacity against the need to cook, heat, light, refrigerate your food and power the water pump. There are certain preparations that can be taken before setting out, that will maximise the amount of time you can spend away from the electric nectar of the mains supply.
The first consideration is understanding how your leisure battery works — which provides the power when the engine is off.
